About Your Instructor
Alison L. Miller, MSN, PMHRN-BC, is the owner of PMHRN, LLC and your instructor for all four sections of PMHRN's ANCC Exam Prep Master Course. She's been an RN for more than 40 years and has specialized in psychiatric nursing for close to 30 years.

She earned her BSN at Eastern Michigan University and took her first RN job at Chicago's Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center on a cardiac step-down unit. After realizing she was more interested in how patients were coping with their cardiac problems than she was in the cardiac problems themselves, she switched to psychiatric nursing and earned her master's degree in adult psychiatric nursing at the University of Illinois-Chicago. Eventually, she started working as a psychiatric clinical instructor, helping nursing students to understand the complexities of caring for patients suffering from mental health problems. After September 11th, and having developed an expertise in PTSD, she joined the US Army Nurse Corps in support of returning combat soldiers and their families. After discharge, she served as Fort Carson's Psychiatric Nurse Consultant and Lead Clinician on their Behavioral Emergency Response Team.

Alison has written several articles on combat trauma and military suicide in journals such as Psychotherapy Networker, POLICE Magazine, the Journal of Caffeine Research and the National Education Association's annual journal, Thought and Action. She is also a popular national speaker. She splits her time between Chicago and Western North Carolina.
